In 2016, the MTA(Metro Transit Authority) in New York City banned people from bringing their pets on the subway. This story surfaced again recently and it’s impossibly adorable enough to highlight some of the creativity the New Yorkers have used to bring their best friends on the subway.
The official statement from the MTA is “Customers are not permitted to travel with pets or therapy animals, unless they are in enclosed carriers.
The rule was originally put in place to curb dogs running loose on the subway which makes sense if you’re not a dog lover. The pictures of the creative dog carriers speak for themselves here.
In June 2018, the MTA briefly attempted a more hardline approach, advising a commuter on Twitter to call 911 if they saw a dog outside a bag on the subway. Twelve hours later, following a small outcry, they quickly walked backed the policy, saying it was a mistake and passengers should only call 911 in an emergency.
